My goal is to reveal one teacher's humble journey of self-reflection, critical analysis, and endless questioning about my craft of teaching and learning alongside my middle school students.

Interested in participating in the Art21 Educators Institute?

This institute is definitely worth checking out. I'm passing on the info. from a former peer of mine at the Harvard Ed School!

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working with Art21 Educators in NYC as their Interdisciplinary Consultant, and application for their summer institute is now open. It's a great opportunity for those interested in using contemporary art to deepen and/or support their teaching in both art and non-art classrooms. A T-440 alumnus, Todd Elkin, is one of the participants for the 2011-2012 program, and I'm sure he'll be able to say more about how the program has impacted his teaching. :) Below is more information on Art21 Educators, and I've attached the one-page description of the program as well.

Art21 Educators is an intensive, year-long professional development community. We're about to kick-off the fourth year of the program this summer and are looking for K-12 art, media, and humanities teachers interested in exploring contemporary art and films as a resource for innovative, interdisciplinary teaching and learning! New program information and the online application is up on our web site!

A combination of on-site (week-long institute in NYC) and virtual forums (monthly online sessions) allow us to work with teachers from across the country. Applicants are required to apply in pairs to support each other throughout the year. The 12-14 educators who are chosen will ideally represent a wide cross-section of urban, rural, and suburban contexts as well as diverse student populations, subject areas, and cultural backgrounds.

Our web site provides all the details, including program dates, FAQs, and a link to the online application. In addition, a 1-page description of the program is attached. Please spread the word to colleagues and friends who might be interested in applying.
I look forward to seeing some of you in NYC in July! :)

Best,

Flossie
