Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions. ~ Author Unknown

My goal is to reveal one teacher's humble journey of self-reflection, critical analysis, and endless questioning about my craft of teaching and learning alongside my middle school students.

"The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called 'truth'." ~ Dan Rather

Mohamed's Poem

From a former classmate and very touching!
----
The poem that I'm sending is written by Mohamed, an Egyptian 14-year-old
boy. Last June, during my visit to the school in Fayoum, Cairo, where
students learn Italian as part of a joint program between Egypt and Italy, I
spent some time with a group of them in the yard of the school. They were shy
and excited at the presence of foreigners and school officials. A joyful
group!

One of them came closer to me and, almost whispering, recited his poem
"Amore" [Love]. It was a wonderful gift, a deep message of peace and joy,
which now I would like to share.

Tola Cifone

love

makes you suffer,
makes you cry,
makes you joyful,
makes you the happiest person in the world
breaks your heart,
but mostly

makes you live

Mohamed Sadek Sayed
[My translation]
