Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions. ~ Author Unknown

My goal is to reveal one teacher's humble journey of self-reflection, critical analysis, and endless questioning about my craft of teaching and learning alongside my middle school students.

"The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called 'truth'." ~ Dan Rather

Great group to consider joining!

I just did!

Betsy Johnson has invited you to join a group - SCHOOL TO PRISON PIPELINE - on GPS Network.

This is a description of the group:

"It is  tragic and unacceptable that six decades after Brown v. Board we still haven't achieved equality in public education; Inequities still exist, including disparities in school discipline.  Far too many of our most vulnerable students are excluded from class for minor, non-violent behavior, which puts the at great risk for academic failure, dropping out, and an unnecessary journey down the school-to-prison pipeline.  And far too many of our teachers and education support professionals lack the support and resources to meet their students' developmental needs."      - Dennis Van Roekel, NEA President

The following personalized message has been provided by Betsy Johnson:

Dear Participant

You have been personally selected to be part of a small network of contributors on The GPS Network through the National Educator Association (NEA).  The main topic of this group will be to discuss and participate in The School to Prison Pipeline.  This problem is reaching epidemic proportions in our schools throughout the USA.

Your professional knowledge on this subject will help to assist us weekly as facilitators.  Your participation as a leader in this group will allow us to formulate ideas, disseminate information, find resources and gain knowledge in eradicating the Pipeline.

This group will be charged with contributing to an open forum topics that directly relate to The School to Prison Pipeline.  It is all of our obligations and responsibilities to create great public schools.  We have to stamp out Zero Tolerance and create great online advocacy and awareness of solutions and restorative practices that work.  Many of you presently have great ideas on this topic and we need you to share those solutions with the world

Please email and let me know of your participation in this group.  Please be mindful that this is sponsored by the National Education Association – GPS Network.  If you choose, to be part of this wonderful opportunity, please forward me a picture, bio, email, cell phone and topics of interest within the School to Prison Pipeline.  Please provide in advance any supporting documents, books, materials or any resources that can be posted up that you would like to distribute to the audience.  It is also important that you weigh in weekly to share and collaborate with each other.  Together we can and we will eradicate the School to Prison Pipeline.

Please accept this invite…we welcome you!
